The News Media Coalition (NMC) has appointed Andrew Dowsett as its new Chair, with immediate effect, following a decision of the NMC Board last week.
Andrew is Chief Operating Officer of the PA Media Group, the parent company of PA Media (PA), the national news agency for the UK and Ireland. He has been instrumental in progressing PA Media Group’s diversification strategy, creating new revenue streams from business acquisitions across data, video streaming and commercial imagery to
complement the Group’s traditional media business. He is also an independent advisor to Google’s Digital News Initiative (DNI) Fund and has served on the board MINDS International, a global network of leading news agencies.
Announcing his appointment, the Board stated: ‘Andrew has immense industry knowledge together with a wide range of board experience. He joins at a pivotal moment for the NMC following growth in membership in difficult industry conditions over the past 12 months and a determination to maintain the NMC’s unique role on behalf of news publishers and national and international news agencies. The news industry continues to evolve, and we look forward to drawing upon Andrew’s expertise in the digital, media, broadcast and data and information sectors.’
Upon his appointment, Andrew said: “I am delighted to be joining the NMC and look forward to working with colleagues on strategies to safeguard access for newsgathering and advance opportunities for the industry. The last year in particular has strongly demonstrated the vital role of the news media industry and the need for robust policies that enable it to operate effectively. I have no doubt we can work together to capitalise on new ways of building success for the future.”
Andrew’s appointment follows the news that former NMC Chairman Clive Milner has decided to step down after 10 years in the role.
