
Lisa Nandy gives a grinning welcome to the announcement of her department’s plans
Lisa Nandy, the new Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport in the UK, is to drive forward with legislation to deal with two of the most contentious topics impacting British life: football and artifiicial intelligence.
In the King’s Speech, Charles III said his government would introduced a bill to establish an ‘independent football regulator to ensure greater sustainability in the game and strengthen protections for fans’. He also said the government was committed to establishing the ‘appropriate legislation to place requirements on those working to develop the most powerful artificial intelligence models’.
Nandy, who is Labour MP for Wigan, has been joined at the Department of Culture, Media and Sport by:
* Sir Chris Bryant who was appointed Minister of State at the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology and the Department for Culture, Media and Sport on 8 July 2024. He is MP for Rhondda and Ogmore in July 2024
* Peter Kyle was appointed Secretary of State for Science, Innovation and Technology on 5 July 2024. He was elected as the MP for Hove and Portslade in July 2024
* Stephanie Peacock, appointed Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State at the Department for Culture, Media and Sport on 9 July 2024. She was elected as the MP for Barnsley South in July 2024.
Feryal Clark MP will be the Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for AI and Digital Government. She will be responsible for:

- AI transparency and ethics
- AI regulation
- AI opportunities
- Copyright Tribunal
- Intellectual Property Office (IPO)
* Baroness Jones of Whitchurch will be the Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for the Future Digital Economy and Online Safety. She will be responsible for:
- Online safety and counter-disinformation Tech policy and market-facing technology,
- Including skills National Data Library International strategy,
- Including electronic trade National security and resilience
