The News Media Coalition has reached its milestone 10th anniversary of defending news content and news business freedoms.
It was formed in March 2008 when the news industry realised that no one sector or company could deal with a growing and widespread challenge to premium news content, largely from the world of commercialised sport.
In the News York offices of Associated Press representatives from news publishing and news agencies from many countries shook hands on setting up the NMC and it was incorporated in July that year.
Since then, the NMC has led efforts on many fronts, through engaging with sport organisations, governments, sponsors and rights holders, to argue for the news media to be allowed to get on with the business of creating independent news and distributing their copyright editorial material into consumer and news client markets.
