Michael Giarrusso, vice-chair of the News Media Coalition (NMC), is to become The Associated Press’s deputy head of global news gathering for global beats including Sports, Entertainment, Health and Science, Business and Religion. Since 2013, Michael has served as AP’s global sports editor and has been a leading force at the AP on diversity and inclusion efforts, including co-leading the formation of its successful Champions program.

For the News Media Coalition, the debate mattered because it repeatedly returned to the ground where Primary Source Journalism lives: access to events and institutions, the terms attached to accreditation, the concentration of rights, and the protection of the people who do the reporting. Those themes surfaced again and again, across political groups and national delegations.
