ESI Media history
ESI Media was founded in 2009 when Alexander and Evgeny Lebedev, owners of The Independent, purchased the London Evening Standard, buying the Standard from Associated Newspapers. Remodelling both newspapers’ business models, the Standard was launched as free newspaper while The Independent moved its focus to online models, becoming entirely digital in 2016, with a sister website i100 launching in 2014. London Live was launched in the same year as i100.
