The European Pressphoto Agency is a professional news photography agency that operates around the world. As a private organisation, the epa works to maintain independence and impartiality in its photography services. epa services include the creation, editing and distribution of photographs that are sent to its clients via online or satellite connections. Its photography services cover news, politics, sport, entertainment as well as business and culture.
As an independent agency, epa and its employees do not allow interference from outside interests, be they governmental, religious or private. Its photographers are required to follow a code of conduct that emphasises accuracy, honesty and ethical conduct, as well as respect for intellectual property and for the safety of at-risk news sources.

Founded in 1985 by seven European news agencies seeking to provide an alternative to contemporary picture services, epa initially operated as a photo exchange service exclusive to these agencies. As Iron Curtain came down, its operations moved into Eastern Europe and during the Yugoslav Wars epa began employing its own photographers to record the conflict.
Since then, epa has expanded to a global network of photographers, which offers its services to many clients. The company now has nine news networks acting as its shareholders. These are: Athens-Macedonian News Agency (ANA-MPA) in Greece, Algemeen Nederlands Persbureau (ANP) in the Netherlands, Agenzia Nazionale Stampa Associata (ANSA) in Italym, Austria Presse Agentur (APA) in Austria, Agencia EFE in Spain, KEYSTONE in Switzerland, Lusa – Agência de Notícias de Portugal in Portugal, Magyar Távirati Iroda (MTI) in Hungary and Polska Agencja Prasowa (pap) in Poland.
