EANA’s Alexandru Giboi Joins Board of US-Based Digital Media Licensing Association

Alexandru Ion Giboi, Secretary General of the European Alliance of News Agencies (EANA), has been elected Officer-at-Large of the Board of the Digital Media Licensing Association (DMLA), serving a two-year term from 2026 to 2028. Giboi joins a board of eight professionals drawn from across the US and European digital content licensing industry, covering the full value chain from content creation and aggregation to distribution, monetisation, and rights enforcement.

The appointment comes at a critical moment for the content licensing sector. In his acceptance statement, Giboi highlighted the accelerating disruption posed by AI to content licensing — the core business model for most content producers — and underlined the importance of cross-Atlantic solidarity: “The challenges faced by European and US news media and general content producers are mostly the same, and we need to stay united in facing them.” He added that he looks forward to bringing the experience and perspective of European news agencies to the DMLA board.

Giboi has served as EANA Secretary General since 2018 and is currently in his third term. Beyond his role at EANA, he teaches International Strategic Management at the Università della Svizzera Italiana in Lugano, and has previously served as President and Director General of AGERPRES, the Romanian National News Agency. Founded in 1951, the DMLA is the leading advocacy body for copyright, ethical AI, and creator rights in the media licensing industry.
