European Parliament approves the Copyright Directive

Members of the European Parliament voted in sweeping new copyright protection for content creators.

By 348 votes to 274 the Parliament adopted long-debated copyright proposals which will ensure internet platforms reward creativity and better police unlicensed and commercially-exploited third party content. The adopted proposals included a ‘publisher right’ protection for published products and  ‘news agency Right’ for their content on their wire services.

The Voss Amendment taking note of the Commission’s Declaration on Sport was also adopted.
