World Anti-Doping Agency recognsises importance of investigative journalism

Sébastien Gillot, Director of the European Office & International Federation Relations, World Anti-Doping Agency, spoke of the value and worth of the ARD (a joint organisation of Germany’s regional public-service broadcasters) investigation into athlete doping in Austria and German.

Gillot made these remarks at the European Union Sport Forum, the European Union’s No 1 event for sporting stakeholders from across the EU and non EU Member States. The News Media Coalition (The NMC) are attending this Forum and Andrew Moger, Executive Director of the NMC, will speak on the Panel –  are sports rights protected enough in the EU.

In a later session, the French Minister of Sports, Roxana Mărăcineanu, informed the audience how the Paris Olympic Games are viewed by Parisians as a sustainable venture and as such are supportive of the Games taking place in their city. The NMC has met the French Ministry of Sports to discuss media policy of the Olympics and ‘media rights agreements’ to fully recognise the needs of the news media including news agencies such as Agence France-Presse (AFP) and news publishers.
