Doubts on Winter Olympics 2026 CEO as new Italian government takes firmer grip

According to Giovanni Malagò, Milan Cortina 2026 President as well as President of the Italian National Olympic Committee and an International Olympic Committee (IOC) member, the main change is that the CEO of the OCOG (Organising Committee of the Olympic Games) will now be appointed by the Italian Prime Minister after consultation with our stakeholders and the territories – the Lombardy region, the Veneto region, the Autonomous Provinces of Trento and Bolzano and the Municipalities of Milan and Cortina d’Ampezzo.

However, the OCOG’s Status has not been modified yet. It is reported that  that Letizia Moratti, the former Mayor of Milan, is the new Italian Government’s choice to become Chief Executive of the Milan Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics Organising Committee, in place of the current CEO Vincenzo Novari. As for now, she refuses to confirm this appointment.
