Reappointed UK Sports Minister Stuart Andrew MP supports an independent football regulator

Stuart Andrew MP has been reappointed as Sports Minister by the new UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, following Liz Truss’ departure from No 10.

Prior to his appointment by Liz Truss it was lead to be believed the MP for Pudsey would take charge of the independent football regulator that was recommended by the Report “Independent Fan-Led Review of Football Governance” led by Tracey Crouch MP.

Amidst a Times report that the former Truss government would not follow through with the Report’s recommendation for a regulator and backtrack on its initial government view to support a Regulator, Andrew has said on Twitter that “I absolutely get the need for football to be reformed to make it sustainable in the long term. This will be at the heart of our next steps on football governance.”

More to follow on this as the new UK government establishes its priorities in sport policy.
