PGA Tour rights bought by Discovery for $2bn

The US media conglomerate Discovery, who owns Eurosport, has bought the broadcast rights to all coverage of golf’s PGA Tour outside of the US and UK in a deal worth $2bn.

The deal covers 21 markets including Australia and Canada and will cause trouble for UK’s Sky Sports when their own deal comes up for renewal in 2022.

Previously, the Professional Golfers Association (PGA) had negotiated all non-US television rights on its own but will now be able to partner with Discovery and its network of broadcasters to negotiate regional licences.
