Consultation on the challenges of generative AI to the creative and news sectors

A government consultation was launched today (17/12/24) on the challenges of generative AI to the creative industry including the news sector.

The UK Intellectual Property Office (IPO), the Department of Culture, Media, and Sport (DCMS) and the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology (DSIT) launched the Consultation on Copyright and Artificial Intelligence. The consultation will be open for responses from 17 December 2024 to 25 February 2025.

This follows a series of consultations with creative sectors earlier this year, including involving the News Media Coalition (NMC) and Members, when there concerns were expressed about the need for a robust copyright regime as well as wider concerns about the interaction between AI and journalism.
