AFP General Counsel Appointed as Treasurer of the News Media Coalition

Christophe Walter-Petit, General Counsel of Agence France-Presse has taken up the role of Treasurer of the News Media Coalition, an international trade organisation of news agencies and publishers which works to protect news content and business freedoms for members.

Mr Walter-Petit has been AFP’s lead representative on the NMC for five years and in addition to the officer position of treasurer, he is AFP’s Director of the NMC. Since joining AFP in 2012 Mr Walter-Petit has ensured that AFP is at the forefront of battles to ensure that AFP and all fellow NMC members are able to create, use and distribute independent news material at major organised events, SUCH AS sports matches and tournaments, political gatherings, entertainment shows etc.

As general counsel at AFP, Christophe has supported the efforts of NMC membership to reject arbitrary rules imposed on professional news-gathering and the copyright content of news organisations.

Clive Milner, NMC Chairman said: ‘The NMC Board is delighted to have Christophe in the Treasurer role as the NMC continues to evolve to deal with the challenges of ensuring that news businesses can continue to provide news material of value to publishers, other editorial clients and the wider news-consuming public.’
